Sieve

From SeventeenOrBust

The preferred option for sieving is using the automated BOINC client through Primegrid.

PrimeGrid Automated Sieving

The PrimeGrid project brings together a collection of prime search projects into one client with a single scoring system. It enables users to compete with users in many other projects while contributing to the project of their choice. PrimeGrid credit is not comparable with SoB or PSP credit on the main SoB web site or sieve stats site.

  1. Download, install and run the BOINC software used by PrimeGrid.
  2. When prompted, enter the URL: http://www.primegrid.com/
  3. Visit the PrimeGrid website and log in to your account
  4. Go to the project preferences section
  5. Select the link to Edit PrimeGrid preferences
  6. Under applications select only Prime Sierpinski Problem (Sieve)

Manual Sieving

Manual sieving requires ranges to be reserved manually, credit is given for factors found. If no factors are found in a range then there is no credit awarded. Manual sieving should be used only by people who want to keep up with the SoB or PSP sieve stats, who want to participate using a computer with no internet connection or those who like making life hard for themselves!

  1. A range must be reserved at http://www.sierpinskisieve.com
  2. The sr2sieve program must be downloaded and installed
  3. The SoB and PSP combined DAT must be downloaded and unzipped in the correct location
  4. Factors should be submitted to SoB and PSP either directly or using the submit script
  5. The range should be marked as complete on the reservation system
