I am behind a firewall, can I get the client to connect to the Seventeen or Bust server?

Yes, you can; if you are behind a firewall that filters the port the server uses, change the server to be sbp.pns.net and the port to be either 22 or 80, since those are commonly unfiltered (ssh and http, respectivly).
